Starting Up With Chlorine
1. Uncover the pool by draining the excess water off the top of the cover, cleaning the debris off, and carefully removing it. Clean and store cover.
2. Start with a clean pool and functional equipment. Remove leaves, other debris, and vacuum. Check to make sure the pump, heater and other equipment are operational. Clean or backwash filter. Run the filter continuously through this start-up process.
2. Adjust the water balance into the ranges below:
- pH= 7.2-7.6
- Alkalinity= 80-120
- Calcuim Hardness= 180-300
*TIP: This may take a few days if needed you may use a chlorine shock to keep algae growth inhibited.
3. If you are not using a stabilized chlorine already, add the appropriate dosage of chlorine stabilizer.
4. After 12 hours add 1lb. of chlorinating powder per 10,000 gallons of pool water. If chlorinating powder is not available you, you may use liquid chlorine (the basic idea here is to get a chlorine residual in the water above 1.0ppm)
5. At this point you may place tablets in the chlorine floater, auto-chlorinator, or skimmer (if the tablets are made for use in skimmer)
